In an aging society refractive surgery not only has to solve the problem of treating anisometropia but also presbyopia. So cataract surgery is gaining importance as a refractive procedure. The last few years showed some very interesting developments in intraocular lens design. New types of laser surgery evolved to treat the anisometropia of presbyopic patients. The current hype is laser-assisted (refractive) cataract surgery thanks to the
further development of femtosecond laser technology.

Until very recently there was no particularly great movement visible in the fields of Refractive Surgery and Cataract treatments. Correction of presbyopia was discussed in different ways, a lot of procedures were tried, but the important steps were still missing.
This has changed dramatically: Very interesting developments, new inventions and progressive treatment options are on the way for refractive surgeons.
